Night Wolf

'Night Wolf'

The brooding presence of A2/2 Pacific No.60506 'Wolf of Badenoch' lurks in the shed yard at New England, Peterborough waiting patiently for a spell of night duty c1960.

When Edward Thompson succeeded Sir Nigel Gresley as Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London, North Eastern Railway in 1941, among his many controversial moves was to rebuild, in 1943/44, Gresley's six majestic P2 2-8-2's into 4-6-2's. Whilst it would be true to say that their performance did not live up to expectations, they certainly had, from this artist's point of view at least, a certain something!
