Waiting in the night

'Waiting in the Night'

There is a fascination about freight trains at night that was not always shared by those who lived near busy marshalling yards during the days of steam.

Here a typically work-stained Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No.48197 waits impatiently with it's crew before heading north with a heavy freight train from Washwood Heath yards, Birmingham, during the latter days of steam.
